How to use utm codes to track traffic source and mediums

Whether it's a blog post, an email blast, or an add, it's useful to be able track where the traffic is coming from and how well certain mediums convert. To do this, you just need to install a simple UTM code at the end of each link you want to track in Analytics.

Here is the general format. As you can see, each separate tracking piece is separated by an "&". You can name the red content whatever you want, being descriptive helps you track!

&utm_campaign=CAMPAIGNNAME&utm_medium=MEDIUMNAME&utm_source=SOURCENAME

Examples:
Campaign (Optional): "apptuesday" or "newsletter"
Medium: "blog" or "email" or "twitter" or "button"
Source: "en-na-us-ogblog-apptuesday_11092010" or "button-google.com"

An example of a utm code is the "Add to Apps" button, which we teach you to code and track here

Track the performance of certain campaigns similar to how you would in the "Add to Apps" page. Just check all traffic, and drill down based on medium or source.
